Meet the Team

Prof John Reilly

Prof John J Reilly, BSc, PhD is Professor of Physical Activity and Public Health Science at the University of Strathclyde. He has played a leading role in developing national and international guidelines for children’s physical activity, sedentary behaviour, sleep and obesity. His work has included expert and advisory roles with the World Health Organization, UK Health Departments and international guideline groups in Canada, South Africa and Scotland. He is currently an expert adviser on childhood obesity to the World Cancer Research Fund Global Cancer Update Project and a member of the Swedish Research Council Public Health Science Committee. He also co-founded the international SUNRISE Study and served on the board of the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance.

Dr Farid Bardid

Farid Bardid is Associate Professor of Physical Activity and Health at the University of Strathclyde. His research focuses on 24-hour movement behaviours and physical literacy, and their influence on the health and development of children and young people. He has contributed to international expert guidance on movement competence and health-promoting sport, including work with the World Health Organization. He also co-leads SUNRISE Scotland, Active Healthy Kids Scotland and FitBack Scotland, supporting efforts to help Scotland’s children and young people move more and sit less.

Dr Paul McCrorie

Dr Paul McCrorie Dr Paul McCrorie is a Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Outdoor Play Research Centre. With a background in children and young people’s physical activity and movement behaviours, his work is driven by a desire to improve the conditions and opportunities for children and young people to play, explore and be physically active. His research focuses particularly on outdoor play, independent mobility and how the places where children live shape their opportunities to move and play. Paul has contributed to national and international research in this area and was an invited expert for the UK Chief Medical Officers’ update of the physical activity guidelines for children and young people.
